Design Brief
Katrina and Ray have two sons and a large extended family that love to hang in the kitchen and connect with the chef. The owners have a preference for French Provincial and English designs, but prefer a modern adaption to traditional detail.
The design brief was to open up the kitchen to the adjoining dining and family room, and to include dedicated spaces that partly separate entertaining from cooking activities – keeping the family connected, but not on top of each other!
Design Outcomes
The kitchen was designed to have one area for guests to sit and chat, and a separate area for the owner to indulge in her love for cooking.
The Entertaining Zone is designed to welcome guests, and opens up the kitchen to the adjoining dining and family rooms. There are beautiful elements, such as a central Butler’s Sink, feature brushed brass tap and elegantly crafted brass hardware. The existing half wall in front of the sink was removed allowing for more space around the dining table and to create an open plan design. There is a wide benchtop for serving up meals with stools on the outer edge, and a coffee zone within easy reach of fridge items.
The Chef Zone is a dedicated cooking, cleaning, food preparation area with generous pantry storage. It includes an extended small appliance bi-fold cabinet, which allows for permanent plug-in of appliances, so they are ‘ready to go’. The central island bench is symmetrical to the windows and includes two large feature drum pendant lights. A hidden stool at the far end of the island bench provides a place for the chef to plan recipes or a favourite family member to sit and be part of the action. Within easy reach are cooking and cleaning appliances and a second large sink and set of bins.
The two adjoining zones allow the chef to stay connected with guests while maintaining a visual delineation between the function of cooking and socialising.
Client Testimonial
“Where do we start…we met Tracy and immediately knew that we would work together on designing our new kitchen. What was meant to be an hour consultation turned into Tracy enjoying a sausage in bread from the BBQ!
Tracy’s attention to detail is amazing, and her customer service is second to none. No matter what day of the week she was always there to brainstorm with us.
We are so, so happy with our kitchen. I have said this to so many people that ‘it’s not everybody’s perfect kitchen, but it’s my perfect kitchen!’
Tracy is very experienced in understanding what the customer wants, even to the point of role playing in our kitchen. She would say, ‘Katrina’s cooking, Ray’s making a coffee and Stefan and Rikard are doing their own thing in the kitchen…and Stefan has his stool at the of the island bench to eat his noodles’. That’s exactly what happens, and I think of her often when we are all buzzing around together.
Tracy goes above and beyond in making sure every detail is considered in the design. There were a couple of things along the way that I wasn’t sure about; I trusted her and wow, she was right!
We highly recommend Tracy and would be happy to speak to anyone about her service.”
